Jacqui Prior
As a mother of three, I understand many of the joys and challenges that family life can bring. My experience as a parent of neurodiverse children has shaped both my personal and professional understanding of difference, resilience, and connection. It has taught me the value of patience, curiosity, advocacy, and celebrating individual strengths.
When I'm not working, you'll often find me enjoying Christchurch's beautiful natural spaces, particularly the Botanic Gardens and our beaches.
One of my greatest strengths is my hope and belief in people's ability to discover their strengths, overcome challenges, and live in ways that reflect who they truly are.
I work with a diverse range of adults 18 years and older who are wanting support in one or more areas:
Anxiety/Depression
Grief/Loss
Relationships
Identity/Self-Esteem
Neurodiversity
What ever life experiences you maybe facing, you don't have to face them alone. Contact me to set up a complementary 30 minute session to discuss your needs.
From a person-centred perspective, I work alongside you rather than directing you. I value your unique experiences and trust in your capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding.
In our work together, I aim to offer:
Empathy and genuine understanding
Acceptance without judgment
Respect for your values, choices, and lived experience
A collaborative relationship where your goals guide the process
Rather than telling you what to do, I will support you to discover what feels right and meaningful for you.
Narrative therapy is based on the understanding that people make sense of their lives through the stories they tell about themselves and their experiences.
Sometimes life's difficulties can become the dominant story, leaving people feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or defined by their problems. Together, we can explore these stories with curiosity and compassion.
Narrative therapy helps us:
Separate you from the problem, recognising that you are more than the challenges you face
Explore the influences that have shaped your experiences and beliefs
Identify strengths, values, skills, and acts of resilience that may have been overlooked
Develop alternative stories that better reflect who you are and what matters to you
My hope is that our conversations will help you reconnect with your strengths, honour your experiences, and move toward a life that feels more aligned with your values and hopes.
I see therapy as a collaborative journey where your voice, knowledge, and wisdom are central. Together, we can create space for new perspectives, possibilities, and preferred ways of being.
This narrative therapy principle reflects my belief that people are never defined by their struggles and that every person has strengths, resources, and stories of resilience that deserve to be heard.
